Meet the Members

Jason Butler-Boffey

Jason is a guitarist with electric and classical training and 30 years
performing experience.

Aged around 8 whilst at his best friends house, his friend showed him
how to play a C major chord on the piano. Jason was mesmerised and
hooked immediately.

He started playing the guitar at the age of nine. By the time he was 14
he had his own band performing his own original songs.
In his late teens he came second in the Daily Telegraph's National Young
Jazz Competition.

As a late teenager Jason spent most of his time indulging his only other
passion at the time - partying and adventure!
After a few years of travelling the country, living in buses, caravans,
tents and a thorough investigation into the effects of various
substances on his brain, he started pursuing his music again.
 

He then went on to study classical guitar at the Royal Welsh College Of Music.

Whilst at college, he studied with classical guitar legends suchas John Mills, John Williams, David Russell, Jorge Morel and Eleftheria Kotkia.

Since then he focussed on electric guitar, performing in rock bands, soul bands, pop bands, jazz bands and country bands in festivals, theatres and clubs all over the country.

As a session guitarist, Jason has backed musicals and established artists such as Bucks Fizz, Sonia, Ray Quinn and Jackie Graham. Also performing along side some of the nations best acts paying tribute to artists such as Abba, Kylie, Queen and Blues Brothers.

Jason’s main guitar is a PRS custom 24 which he plays through aBlackstar St. James amp. His pedal board consists of a Keeleycompressor, an EQ pedal, Beetronics Nectar fuzz/distortion, TubeScreamer. And a TC Electronic Voicelive 3 in a send/return loop, formodulation and time-based effects - mainly chorus, delay and reverb.

Jason's influences are:

James Jamerson, Sting, Tina Turner, Paul McCartney, Chic, and Sugarland

Motown also plays a huge roll in Vanessa's influence, the feel, the vibe and the harmonies are what Vanessa thrives for in her musical endeavours.

Jason's hobbies consist of:

Outside of performing music and teaching the guitar, Jason enjoysplaying Zelda, Mario, and point and click adventure games; reading aboutphilosophy and quantum physics; and observing - in a bemused andexasperated fashion - the world of politics.

Interesting Fact about Jason:

Vanessa is left handed, when purchasing her first ever bass guitar, her father persueded her to go for a right handed one as she was learning to play from scratch anyway and a right handed guitar was A LOT cheaper.
